Wishaw Golf Club is situated on the boundaries of the Hamlet of Wishaw, which dates back to the year 1014 when the first settlers set up home in Dunton Lane. Historical buildings in the village date back to the 13th Century including Wishaw Church and the ever-popular ‘Cock Inn’.
Within the boundaries of the Golf Club is Peddimore Hall built in 1659, which is one of the very few remaining moated dwellings in Britain.
Our unique course is divided within three village boundaries Walmley, Wishaw and Minworth, and is visible when driving on the A38 Birmingham to Lichfield Road.
Wishaw Golf Club was originally started in 1992 with the members club formed in 1996. Using the layout card opposite, the blue lines highlight the first nine hole layout while the yellow lines show the back nine, if your new to the course take your time checking the layout. Work out the best way to plot yourself around, formulate a plan of attack.
From the first hole to the last, good course management is key. Correctly selected shot and club choice and a controlled swing, bring consistency. If you can't reliably carry 160 yds over the lake on the first tee and stop the ball is it the right choice to try, use your handicap and shots to lay up with the second and take a high accuracy wedge into the flag, a single put still gets you the par.
The most effective way to lower golf scores is to prioritize course management and the short game over full-swing mechanics. Players should aim for the middle of the green on approach shots to minimize risk, use conservative clubs off the tee to avoid hazards, and dedicate significant practice time to chipping, pitching, and lag putting to eliminate three-putts and penalties.
Taking a wild swing on off the tee, and slicing or hooking the ball out of bounds is a sure fire way to add to your score with unnecessary penalty strokes, while still leaving you needing to play the original or adjusted shot choice, so instead of two placing the tee shot with a controlled swing and a layup shot to give you a view of the green, you are three off the tee and still need to make the tee shot you just blew, thus turning the three into a four or five.
